Todd Tacoma
Tacoma WA
Most recent update: October 24, 2020.
Todd bought property for a construction yard in Tacoma's Commencement Bay in 1917. The yard was closed after WWI but reactivated for WWII by Todd and Kaiser, as Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding. The Navy invested $15mm in its expansion, increasing its three ways to eight. At its peak, Todd Tacoma employed 28,000 people. Todd bought out Kaiser's interest in 1942 and renamed it Todd Pacific Shipyards, but sold the yard to the Navy after the war ended. The Navy sold the yard to the Port of Tacoma in 1959 and its site is now part of the port's Commencement Bay Industrial Development District. Note that many entries in the # column show two numbers: the first of these is the number assigned by Todd Tacoma, while the second is the number assigned by Todd Seattle.
