AmShip Chicago

Chicago IL

Most recent update: October 24, 2021.

The AmShip yard in Chicago IL started life in 1890 as Chicago Shipbuilding, an offshoot of Cleveland's Globe Iron Works. It became a subsidiary of The American Ship Building Company in 1898 and a division in 1911. After WWI, AmShip operated it as a repair yard but closed it in the 1970s. It was located on the east bank of the Calumet River, at 101st Street, where Morton Salt is now. See the site from the air on Google here.
