Orange Shipbuilding was founded by Robert M. and Thomas E. Clary in 1974. Initially, it was a builder of tugs and towboats but in the late 1980s they made the smart strategic move into government contracts set aside for small businesses and did very well at a time when most shipyards were struggling.
