LCU

Most recent update: August 5, 2020.

In total, 251 LCUs have been built for the US Navy since WWII, including those which were acquired by the Navy on behalf of the Army. There are three basic designs: the LCU-1466 class, of which 142 were built, was 119 feet in LOA and 180 tons light displacement; the LCU-1610 class, of which 72 were built, was 135 feet and 200 tons; and the LCU-2001 class, of which 35 were built, was 174 feet and 575 tons. Note that there is very little information available on what happened to most of the LCUs that are no longer in active service: many were left behind in Vietnam, where some have probably been scrapped, but there may be a few still around.
