Ventnor Boat Works

West Atlantic City NJ

Most recent update: August 26, 2021.

Ventnor Boat Works was started in 1902 by Emil A. Apel and developed a major reputation for the construction of high-speed boats - including Malcolm Campbell's Bluebird and other world record holders. It moved to a larger facility, in West Atlantic City, for WWII and returned to the commercial market after the war, but gradually lost market share and closed in 1968. The yard was in the Bayport area of Atlantic City, at the extreme end of the road that connects US 40 to the Prism Career Institute and Lakes Bay Preserve. If you look at the area from the air on Google here - you can just see the pilings that defined its seawall.
