Merchant Shipbuilding

Bristol PA

Most recent update: August 24, 2021.

Averell Harriman and his partners in American Ship & Commerce Corporation considered that the main Merchant Shipbuilding yard in Chester PA was not well suited to mass production and built a ship factory in Bristol that was similar to the Hog Island and Submarine shipyards. The yard was located on Radcliffe Street, at Bristol Street: the General Stores and Mold Loft building is still there. See the site, which appears to be a marina now, from the air on Google here.
