Base Minesweepers
(AMB) Acquired in WWII
Most recent update: May 13, 2016.
During WWII, 22 wooden-hulled fishing vessels were acquired and reconfigured as Base Minesweepers, (AMb), even smaller than the coastal minesweepers, (AMc) and yard minesweepers, (YMS). This was not considered a success, however, and on May 1, 1942, less than a year later, they were reconfigured again, this time as yard patrol craft, (YP). This too was not successful and most of these boats were disposed-of before the war was over.
