US Coast Guard Yard
Baltimore MD
The US Coast Guard Yard - known in that service as "The Yard" - was originally established by the Revenue Cutter Service in 1899. Through WWII, its primary activities were ship repair and the construction of small boats and buoys. The Yard was expanded at the outset of WWII and five cutters were built in addition to a lot of boats. Since WWII, it has been even more active. It has been extensively improved and is well supported politically, but it has not built anything since completing a series of buoy boats in 2001.
