Newcomb Lifeboat
Hampton VA
Most recent update: August 31, 1921.
This shipyard was originally a repair yard called The Chesapeake Gas Engine Company. When war approached, it was acquired by The Newcomb Lifeboat Company, of Richmond VA, expanded and renamed The Hampton Shipbuilding & Marine Railway Company. This entity failed, however, after the war ended. The yard was at the foot of what is now called Newcombe Avenue, on the south side of Sunset Creek. See it from the air on Google here.
