Hanlon Dry Dock & Shipbuilding
Oakland CA
The D. J. Hanlon Shipbuilding Company was established in 1912 by D. J. (Dan) Hanlon, who had worked in several shipyards before starting out on his own in about 1910, at the foot of 5th Avenue, in Oakland. A marine railway was added by 1916 and the name was changed to Hanlon Dry Dock & Shipbuilding Company. The site is now a marina but the shipyard buildings are obvious. Although their last new ship was delivered in 1927, Hanlon continued as a repair yard through 1948.
