General Ship
East Boston MA
Most recent update: July 23, 2014.
General Ship & Engine Works was started in 1932 by Carl Hedblom, a Danish immigrant, and his son, Byron Hedblom, in a portion of the property used by the Bertelsen & Petersen shipyard, but in 1936 the company moved to the site of Donald McKay's shipyard on Border Street, where so many famous clipper ships were built. The yard changed hands several times and closed in 1991. See the shipyard from the air on Google here.
