Shelburne Shipbuilders
Shelburne NS
There have been many boatbuilders in Shelburne over the years, several of which had significant records of construction - I will get to them in time. Shelburne Shipbuilders, Ltd., was started in 1916 by Albert Bruce, but the driving force as both designer and builder, from Day 1 until his retirement in 1947, was James H. Harding. The company was acquired in the 1950s by the neighboring yard, Harley S. Cox & Sons, but continued to operate as Shelburne Shipbuilders until it closed in 1985. It was located at the foot of George Street and is now part of the Muir-Cox Shipyard Interpretive Centre.
